What are the Australian Timber Design Awards? The Australian Timber Design Awards are a national competition to promote and encourage outstanding timber design in the built environment professions. Now entering their eighth year, the Awards are distinguished by a proud heritage of innovation and achievement. The aim of the Awards is to develop a timber design ethos through the encouragement and showcasing of superlative timber design in a variety of applications. A broad range of entry categories demonstrates the diversity of timber and permits recognition of achievement in a variety of areas. The Australian Timber Design Awards are open to builders, designers, architects, engineers and landscapers: to anyone involved in the design or building of structures that feature timber. A separate section in the residential category is available to students and entrants aged 30 or under. Timber is a beautiful, strong and environmentally friendly material. The Australian Timber Design Awards encourage entries that showcase these properties. Categories recognise outstanding use of timber in residential buildings and public or commercial buildings. Projects may be entered, moreover, in the new Interior Fitout featuring Decorative Wood Veneer category and in the Outdoor Timber category. Special additional awards exist for: Best Use of Treated Timber; Best Use of Timber Flooring; Best Use of Western Red Cedar; Best Use of Cypress; Best Use of Engineered Timber Products; Best Use of Timber as a Structural Element; Best Use of Plywood and LVL (Award and Trophy); Other Outstanding Use of Timber; and Environmental Commitment .
